VACCINATION: FIRST LADY FLAGS OFF THIRD ROUND BCU CAMPAIGN

The Wife of Chairman, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Mrs. Affiong Nkom has flagged off Third Round Big Catch-Up (BCU) vaccination with a call on parents to ensure that their children turn out for vaccination against the killer disease.

Mrs Nkom said the BCU campaign was designed to bridge the immunization coverage gap.

Flagging off the Round Three Big Catch-Up Routine Immunization Intensification exercise today, 15th April, 2025 at ikot Obong Otoro in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Mrs. Nkom stressed the need for parents to avail their children of the privileged preventive measures to tackle the disease.

She added that, the programme aims to strengthen routine Immunization, which protects children from vaccine-preventable diseases, saves lives and helps to ensure that all eligible children are fully immunised.

Commending the immunization campaign initiative and the Health personnel in the area said, it would go a long way in providing protection for children against the killer disease.

Earlier, the Director of Health Services who was represented by the Local Immunization Officer, Mrs. Imaobong Obot said, the Big Catch-Up (BCU) vaccination is programmed for children between 0 to 59months.

According to her, the programme targets zero-dose children and non-compliant people whose children might have missed their scheduled vaccinations, to increase the immunity of children from polio, which causes paralysis.

Commending the wife of the Council Chairman, the Village Woman Leader, Lady Victoria Umoren thanked her for flagging-off the exercise in the area.
