President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved three major projects proposed by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy to improve network connectivity across Nigeria.
The approval followed the President’s meeting with ministers at the State House, Abuja.
Briefing the President, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, presented updates on three flagship digital transformation projects being implemented by the Ministry.
He disclosed that the Federal Government had completed resource mobilisation and contracting for the Building Resilient Digital Infrastructure for Growth, BRIDGE, Project.
The project will deploy 90,000 kilometres of fibre-optic infrastructure across Nigeria, covering every state, geopolitical zone, local government area and ward.
According to the Minister, the nationwide fibre deployment will begin within the next few weeks.
“We are now at the point where, in a few weeks’ time, we should start laying those fibres. People will start seeing us around the country deploying the infrastructure. This is going to transform Nigeria for good,” Tijani said.
The project is expected to expand broadband access, improve network reliability and strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy.
