…As 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Camp Ends
The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD has urged the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members deployed to the State to serve as agents of positive change in their host communities and places of primary assignment.
Governor Eno gave the charge on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikot Itie Idung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area, during the closing ceremony of the orientation course.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Senator (Dr) Akon Eyakenyi, the Governor reminded the corps members of the commendable legacies left by their predecessors across various sectors in the State, and urged them to uphold and even surpass those records through ethical conducts and selfless service.
He described the orientation course as a vital component of the NYSC scheme, designed to instill leadership qualities, discipline and a sense of responsibility required for nation-building.
“One of the major objectives of the NYSC scheme is to expose young graduates to the realities and challenges of nation-building.
“You are therefore expected to play active roles in promoting civic responsibility, peaceful coexistence and the collective pursuit of a just, united and prosperous society,” he said.
Governor Eno reassured the corps members of the peaceful and hospitable nature of Akwa Ibom State, encouraging them to relate freely with host communities, respect their socio-cultural values, and build lasting relationships that may extend beyond their service year.
He commended them for their discipline, cooperation and good conduct throughout the orientation course, and urged them to sustain the virtues of humility, loyalty and commitment in their places of primary assignment.
The Governor also warned the corps members against actions that could bring disrepute to the nation, and jeopardise their safety, advising them to avoid night travel. He directed that any journey extending beyond 6:00pm should terminate at a corps lodge, police station or military barracks.
He further advised them to board vehicles only at designated motor parks, share travel plans with family, and utilize emergency contact numbers provided in the security tips.
Governor Eno noted that in addition to the federal allowance, the state government provides further support to corps members in recognition of their role in advancing the ARISE Agenda, especially in education, health and community development.
He congratulated them on the successful completion of the orientation course and expressed delight that the exercise was concluded without any casualty.
The highpoint of the ceremony was the inspection of a parade mounted in the Governor’s honour by the newly deployed corps members.
Dignitaries at the event included the Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerete Ekanem; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong; Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh; Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga; Special Adviser on Cooperative and Rural Development, Rt. Hon. Alice Ekpenyong; the Executive Chairman, Nsit Atai Local Government Council, Hon. Prince Anthony Nyong; State Coordinator, NYSC, Mrs. Rosemary Ngozi Akuagbaogu; representatives of service commanders, among others.
