The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called on citizens to reject ethnic and tribal sentiment capable of threatening the peace and unity of the state as political activities begin to gather momentum.
The governor who spoke in Uyo, described peace as a collective duty that must be protected by all stakeholders.
Eno urged traditional institutions, religious organisations, political actors, security agencies and other stakeholders to work together to preserve the peaceful atmosphere in Akwa Ibom.
He said, “Peace is a shared responsibility that must be jealously guarded, particularly as the state approaches another political season. We must reject ethnic and tribal sentiment capable of threatening the peace and unity of the state.”
The governor expressed appreciation for the peace currently prevailing in Akwa Ibom, stressing that it should not be taken for granted.
Eno also urged citizens to make gratitude a way of life, pointing out that they should also appreciate the men and women through whom God provides assistance, opportunities and support.
He called for issue-based campaigns, stressing that Akwa Ibom had moved beyond the era when ethnic and religious sentiments could be exploited to divide the people.
