AKSG CAUTION STERLING OIL TO REVERT TO LAWFUL LAND ALLOTMENT OR FACE SANCTION

‼️The Akwa Ibom State Government has issued a stern warning to Sterling Oil Exploration Company following violations of terms of land grant and unlawful encroachment beyond its legally assigned portion in Eastern Obolo and surrounding communities in the State.

‼️ In a strongly worded letter dated Friday, April 4, 2025, and signed by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom, SAN, the State Government expressed deep displeasure over the company’s illegal operations and disregard for regulatory provisions.

‼️ The letter mandated Sterling Oil to, within seven (7) days, submit all documentation relating to its land acquisitions and Right of Way approvals in Akwa Ibom State to the Office of the Attorney General. The company is also directed to immediately restore all blocked canals and waterways and to desist from any future interference with natural water channels.

‼️ Furthermore, Sterling Oil is required to produce a certified copy of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) report that was submitted in pursuit of regulatory approvals for its operations.

‼️ The Government emphasized that these measures do not preclude further enforcement actions.

‼️It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens and host communities affected by the company’s activities and upholding the legal frameworks guiding the Oil and Gas Free Zone under which Sterling Global operates.

‼️While reiterating its pro-business stance, the Government warned that corporate interests must not override the rights, welfare, and ecological integrity of Akwa Ibom communities.

“The State remains resolute in ensuring that all operators within its territory strictly adhere to the rule of law and sustainable development practices.”
