AKSG digitises ticket collection, deploys smart surveillance cameras in Uyo

…Records over 100,000 tickets sold, ₦22.47m revenue generated as at 9:30am on Friday

The Akwa Ibom State Government has intensified efforts to digitise revenue collection and strengthen urban security through technology-driven initiatives, including the digitalisation of ticketing systems and the deployment of smart surveillance cameras across Uyo, the state capital.

Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong, disclosed this on Friday, October 23, 2026, during the Ministerial Press Briefing at Government House, Uyo.

Ekpenyong revealed that the state’s digital ticketing system had recorded approximately 100,946 tickets sold as of 9:30 a.m. on Friday since the commencement of the exercise, generating a total revenue of about ₦22.47 million.

He explained that the initiative was part of the government’s drive to modernise revenue collection, improve transparency and accountability, and leverage digital technology to enhance public service delivery.

The Commissioner also announced that surveillance camera poles being mounted at strategic locations across Uyo are part of efforts to strengthen the state’s security architecture.

He noted that the surveillance system would feature advanced capabilities, including automatic number plate recognition, which would enable relevant authorities to identify vehicle registration numbers and support security monitoring.

According to him, the technology would provide valuable data for security management, regulatory compliance and urban planning, helping the government make better-informed decisions in managing the state’s urban environment including flood prevention and control.

Ekpenyong further highlighted plans to integrate public payments through a unified digital payment platform linked to the Treasury Single Account (TSA), providing a more coordinated and transparent framework for government transactions. He also hinted on a proposed integrated payment card designed to facilitate seamless payments across public transportation services, including buses and ferries.

The initiative according to the Commisioner, is expected to simplify fare payments for commuters while supporting the state’s broader objective of building a digitally enabled and efficient transportation system.

The Commissioner said the various initiatives reflect the state government’s commitment to deploying science, innovation and digital technology to improve governance, strengthen security, enhance revenue administration and deliver more efficient services to residents.

Through these interventions, the Akwa Ibom State Government is pursuing a more connected digital ecosystem in which technology supports effective public administration, safer communities and improved convenience for citizens.
