The Akwa Ibom State Government has taken delivery of the final batch of 10 Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, buses, bringing the total number of buses delivered to 50, as promised by Governor Umo Eno.
The latest batch arrived in the state on Tuesday, September 1st, 2026, completing the government’s planned acquisition of 50 brand-new CNG buses for the state’s mass transit system.
The first batch of 20 buses was received on June 29, 2026, while a second batch of 10th arrived on July 19th, bringing the total to 30.
Another 10 buses arrived on August 10th, increasing the fleet to 40, while the arrival of the final 10 buses has now completed the 50-bus fleet.
The initiative is part of Governor Umo Eno’s administration’s efforts to provide safer, more affordable and efficient public transportation across the 31 local government areas of the state.
The CNG buses are expected to complement the ongoing development of the state’s mass transit infrastructure, including the CNG terminal and other facilities required for the commencement of full operations.
