-Governor Umo Eno orders immediate return of Akwa United to NPFL
Mr. Joseph Eno and Prince Ukeme Ukpong are to take charge of Akwa United Football Club and Ibom Angels Football Club respectively as chairmen, just as Governor Umo Eno has directed the immediate return of Akwa United to the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Governor Umo Eno noted that a football club at the level of Akwa United should not be playing in the lower division and promised to ensure the team gets the needed attention and support to return to the elite division.
The new chairman of the club Mr. Joseph Eno is a graduate of Accounting from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka who voluntarily retired from Total Energies Company after 20 years of services as contract and procurement Manager in charge of Port Harcourt District.
He was the Captain at Salvation Army Primary School Nsit Ubium, football captain at Saint Francis Secondary School, Ikot Ataku and Football Captain for Ojukwu Hall of University of Nigeria.
Between 2014-2022 he was the captain of Total Companies in Nigeria and co-ordinated them to many local and international successes.
Mr. Eno’s passion for the round leather game does not just stop on the field of play. He is currently BOT of Firm Minds Sporting All Stars International FC Uyo, an Elder in the All Stars International Executive Akwa Ibom State, an astute entrepreneur and the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of CampeGee Hotel and Resort, Uyo.
Mr. Joseph Eno will be assisted by Pastor Ini Edoho as Vice Chairman, Mr. Jimmy Joshua as General Manager while Elder Omon Bassey will serve as the club Secretary.
Others are Mr. Festus Akpan Team Manager, Mr. Mfon Patrick Media Manager to be assisted by Mr. NsikakAbasi Akpan.
In a related development, Akwa United has hired the services of Coach Paul Offor as the new Head Coach of the team. The former Sporting Lagos gaffer who guided the Lagos based team to Nigeria Premier Football league in 2023-24 season has since started work in Uyo and he is currently preparing the Promise Keepers for the upcoming 2025-26 Nigeria National League season.
Coach Offor will be assisted by coach Tosin Adekugbe, coach Okechukwu Promise, coach Bassey Akpan and coach Akarandut Orok in the club’s technical team.
Prince Ukeme Ukpong, a renowned supporter of female football in the state takes charge as the Chairman of Ibom Angels.
Generally renowned for his passion for sports and philanthropy, the founder of Prince Ukeme Ukpong Mega Foundation has significantly contributed to grassroots football development in Akwa Ibom State for 11 years with the flagship Prince Ukeme Ukpong Unity Cup.
A Bachelor’s Degree holder in Business Administration has informed his approach to life and business. Arguably the greatest supporter of female football in Akwa Ibom State, his appointment comes highly recommended.
Elder John Udo returns as the Secretary, assisted by Mr. Cyril Orok while Hon. Ndah Ndah is the team’s co-ordinator.
Others are, coach Mary Udobia Team Manager, Mr. Dennis Thadeus Welfare Officer, Mr. Edidiong Stephen is the new Media Manager of the team to be assisted by Mr. Ini Akang, while Uduak Freddie will serve as Camp Commandant.
