‘Go home, Nigeria is your home’, women taunt Chidimma Adetshina outside court

A former Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, was met with anti-immigrant chants outside a South African court on Monday as she appeared in a case challenging her planned deportation.

Adetshina was arrested in Cape Town last month for allegedly residing in the country illegally.

She is seeking to stop the South African Department of Home Affairs from deporting her. The Cape Town Regional Court adjourned the matter until August 19.

A video circulating on social media on Wednesday, showed a group of women shouting anti-immigrant remarks at the beauty queen as she left the court.

In the footage, the women could be heard chanting, “Go home, Nigeria is your home. We wouldn’t accept you in South Africa,” while urging her to leave the country.

The incident has sparked reactions online, with many users condemning the hostile remarks and describing them as xenophobic.

The case comes amid renewed debate over immigration and the treatment of foreign nationals in South Africa.
