Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has reiterated his administration’s commitment to implement policies that will promote economic prosperity in the state.
Eno made the expression while inaugurating an ultra-modern
market at Ikot Ubo, Nsit Ubium on Tuesday.
Represented by Mr Frank Archibong, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Eno described the market as an ‘economic stimulator’
He urged council chairmen in the state to emulate the steps taken by Mr Alfred Charles, the Chairman, Nsit Ubium Local Government Council.
The governor said that the ultra-modern market would stimulate small scale businesses and ensure sustainable economic development within the communities.
“The chairman of Nsit Ubium has undertaken remarkable development projects that align with the ARISE Agenda.
“This ultra-modern market reflects the ARISE Agenda’s unwavering commitment to ensuring improved access to modern market infrastructure,” he said.
In his remarks, Charles said that the completion of the project gave him a sense of fulfilment as an council administrator.
‘”Today is a day of joy, gratitude and fulfilment. We thank God for making this day possible, and for granting us the opportunity to serve our people,” he said.
He said that the market provided a modern and conducive environment for small and medium scale businesses to thrive.
“The market has three blocks of lock-up shops with thirty-six stores and 378 open market shades.
“It also has six multipurpose sheds, modern toilet facilities, and a generator house, among others,” he said.
Charles stated that 147 residents had benefited from the council’s N100 million empowerment fund for traders.
