GOVERNOR UMO ENO FULFILLS PROMISE WITH NEW DUPLEX FOR NIGERIAN NAVY SCHOOL, CELEBRATES YOUNG SAILORS AT 2025 PASSING OUT PARADE

In a heartwarming display of commitment, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno yesterday commissioned a brand-new 20-studio-room duplex for the Nigerian Navy Military School in Ikot Ntuen, Oruk Anam Local Government Area. The duplex, donated by the state government, marks the fulfillment of a promise made by the governor during last year’s Passing Out Parade (POP) to provide residential quarters for the school’s staff. True to his word, Eno also covered the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees for the 2024 graduating class on a one-off basis, easing the financial burden on students and their families.

Represented by the Commissioner for Education, Pastor Ubong Umoh, Governor Eno attended the 2025 POP as the Special Guest of Honour. Addressing the graduating Young Sailors, he urged them to carry forward the values of integrity, discipline, and patriotism. “You are ambassadors of this school, our state, and our nation,” he said, encouraging them to make a positive impact wherever their paths lead. He also took a moment to applaud the school’s commandant and staff for their tireless efforts in shaping the next generation of Nigerian Navy leaders. Their dedication, he noted, is nothing short of inspiring.

The ceremony wasn’t just about the new duplex—it was a celebration of the Young Sailors’ hard work and achievements. Vice Admiral E. I. Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff, represented by Rear Admiral GSM Aligwe, Chief of Naval Administration, spoke warmly about the graduates. “This Passing Out Parade is a moment to honor the dedication and hard work of these Young Sailors, especially those who have excelled in their academics and training,” he said. He gave a special shout-out to the school’s commandant and staff, calling their efforts in grooming these young Nigerians “glaring and highly commendable.”

The event buzzed with pride and excitement, drawing top military brass from the Nigerian Navy, Army, and Air Force, alongside proud parents and guardians. The day was filled with vibrant military parades, sharp drills, and the presentation of awards to standout sailors. Among them, Akwa Ibom’s own Lawrence Alex Victor stole the spotlight, earning the title of Overall Best Graduating Student—a moment that had the crowd cheering.

Vice Admiral Ogalla also tipped his hat to Governor Eno for his unwavering commitment to Akwa Ibom’s development through the ARISE Agenda. The duplex, he said, is a testament to the governor’s investment in education and infrastructure, setting a strong foundation for the state’s future.

For the people of Ikot Ntuen and beyond, yesterday’s event was more than a ceremony—it was a reminder of what’s possible when leaders keep their promises and communities come together to celebrate their youth. As the Young Sailors march into their futures, they carry not just their training but the pride of a state and nation behind them.
