It is a well known aphorism that a healthy society is a wealthy society. Every society has its health perception index and mainstream health beliefs. The idea of boosting our healthcare system to meet up with the demands of our time is innovative and reassuring, bearing in mind the multiplicity of health security concerns.
In line with His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno’s health care and strategic implementation process as enshrined in the ARISE Agenda blueprint on economic consolidation and expansion, the health sector focal areas of strategic concern included provision of a Health Insurance Scheme, provision of a medical city, revitalization of primary health care service and setting up of senior citizens health scheme amongst many others. My sentiments shall be on the Health Insurance Scheme.
Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency Board, (AKSHIA Board) was formally inaugurated on July 2, 2024 by His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno with a renowned but humble Medical Doctor (Specialist in Family Medicine ), Dr. Edikan Ndueso Ekwere as Chairman of the Board to support the health care drive of the state, where citizens – from the civil service, organised private sector and the informal sector of the society can benefit from the Health Insurance scheme of the current administration. This drive is tailored primarily to give the society a healthcare system that is proactive, preventive and sensitive to the health needs of the people.
His Excellency’s unwavering commitment to a healthy society for Akwa Ibomites is intentional and deeply forthright as seen in the vast number of primary health centers that have been revitalized since assuming office on May 29, 2023, the creation of the Bulk Purchase Agency to help fight food insecurity, the empowerment of over 800 youths through the Ibom LED Entrepreneurial Accelerator Programme, EAP, the AK-CARES for the vulnerable elderly in the State, the payment of pensions and gratuities owed retired Civil Servants upto the tune of N28Billion, N2Billion grant to Traders, amongst so many others are the accolades I can attest to His Excellency’s people centric leadership.
From the foregoing analysis, the soon to be launched Health Insurance scheme christened ARISECare come Friday, September 20, 2024 by His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno is a tastement to the policy implementation drive and health growth process that the Akwa Ibom State Health Healthcare Insurance Agency will offer citizens in any area of stay and locality in the State. This worthy health accelerator plan would surely build an Akwa Ibom State with not just a healthy, but a wealthy health status.
