HON. LINDA AKON UMOH APPLAUDS GOVERNOR UMO ENO’S VISION FOR DIASPORA TOURISM THROUGH THE ARISE RESORT PROJECT

Hon. Linda Akon Umoh, Director of the Akwa Ibom State Directorate of Diaspora Matters, has commended Governor Umo Eno for his visionary ARISE Resort project, which aims to boost diaspora tourism and drive local economic growth.

During a site inspection, Hon. Linda praised the transformation of the once-eroded gully into a stunning lakefront golf resort. The development, led by Bulletin Construction Company, now rivals world-class destinations like Aviara Golf Club in California and Camiral Golf & Wellness in Spain.

She highlighted the project’s potential to generate significant internal revenue and create jobs across key sectors. “This project marks a new trajectory for diaspora tourism as a driver of development,” she said, addressing the Ministry of Information and Strategy.

Hon. Linda emphasized that the ARISE Resort will cater to diaspora visitors motivated by emotional ties, cultural heritage, family reunions, and investment opportunities. She believes these factors will encourage year-round visits, especially during holiday seasons.

She also revealed plans to partner with SAIT Institute in Calgary, Canada, to train Akwa Ibom youths in travel and hospitality management, ensuring a skilled workforce for the tourism sector and reducing capital flight.

The ARISE Resort will feature a golf course, lake, sports facilities, restaurants, cafes, children’s playground, retail shops offering local attire and crafts, an aquarium, pharmacy, and bank outlet—designed to showcase the best of Akwa Ibom culture and lifestyle.

Reaffirming her office’s commitment, Hon. Linda noted that promoting local products and authentic experiences would give Akwa Ibom a unique edge in tourism. “Diaspora tourists spend differently—not less—because they seek meaningful local experiences and buy directly from small businesses,” she added.

The Directorate pledges continued advocacy to position the ARISE Resort as a flagship in diaspora engagement and sustainable development.
