HON. LINDA AKON UMOH HARPS ON DIASPORA ENGAGEMENT IN AKWA IBOM STATE EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The future of diaspora involvement in the Akwa Ibom State education systems appears promising yet requires strategic planning and sustained commitment. As globalization continues to shape our world, the potential for collaboration between diaspora communities and local educational institutions will only grow.

As the development of Akwa Ibom State education sector move forward into an increasingly interconnected future, it is imperative that government continues to explore innovative approaches to involve diaspora communities in shaping the educational sector of homeland.

By fostering meaningful relationships based on shared goals and mutual respect, stakeholders can create a more inclusive approach to education reform that benefits all parties involved.

Despite the immense potential of diaspora engagement in Akwa Ibom State education reforms, the Akwa Ibom State Directorate on Diaspora Matters is face with several challenges and barriers which has to be addressed to maximize impact. One significant hurdle is the lack of coordination among various diaspora organizations and initiatives. Fragmentation can lead to duplicated efforts and inefficient use of resources.

To overcome this challenge, Hon. Linda Akon Umoh identifies the need to foster collaborations among diaspora groups. Establishing networks or coalitions has been on the directorate agenda in facilitating information sharing, resource pooling, and collective advocacy efforts. Additionally, cultural differences and varying levels of understanding about local contexts can pose challenges for diaspora members seeking to implement educational initiatives of the Governor Umo Eno’s led administration.

24th March 2025 was a date that presented a great opportunity for Hon. Linda Akon Umoh accessment of the Christ The King Model Primary School renovated by the Governor Umo Eno’s led administration. As a critical government official she was part of the entourage of the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education led by Prof. Ubong Essien Umoh.

In the purview of this educational tour assessment, the critical facilities of the model school was in view such as ICT laboratory, classrooms, solar system, toilets and staff quarters. This is of keen interest of the Directorate towards the mobilization of diaspora support.

Hon. Linda Akon Umoh shares the view that it is crucial for diaspora organizations to engage with local stakeholders to ensure that their efforts align with community needs and priorities. Building trust and fostering open communication between diaspora members and local educators can help bridge developmental gaps and create more effective programs.
