••• Leads Intervention Team in Uyo Metropolis
The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA), Obong (Dr.) Prince Ikim, has once again showered praises on Governor Umo Eno for his remarkable investment in modern waste management infrastructure, which he said has been instrumental in maintaining Akwa Ibom’s position as Nigeria’s cleanest state.
Dr. Ikim made the remarks on Wednesday while leading the Agency’s Intervention Team across several locations within the Uyo metropolis.
Speaking with Newsmen at Abak Road near Mechanic Village, he emphasized that the governor’s support, particularly the recent procurement of state-of-the-art equipment, has significantly enhanced the agency’s operational efficiency.
The Environmental boss further explained that the intervention exercise targeted critical areas prone to waste accumulation and drainage issues, particularly as the rainy season approaches. The agency’s efforts, he noted, are in line with Governor Umo Eno’s zero-tolerance policy on waste management.
Dr. Ikim urged residents to complement the agency’s work by embracing proper waste disposal practices and adhering to environmental laws, stressing that achieving a clean and healthy environment is a collective responsibility.
Meanwhile, residents in the affected areas, including Abak Road, Idoro Road, Ikot Ambang axis, Ikot Ekpene Road, Nwaniba Road, Clement Isong Avenue, Idongesit Nkanga Avenue, among others, had expressed satisfaction with the agency’s swift response to environmental challenges. They took the opportunity to commend the Governor for his administration’s proactive stance on Environmental and Waste Management.
