The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged Nigerian women to actively participate in politics to shape national discourse and contribute meaningfully to the country’s development.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the commission’s Head, Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the NIDCOM chairman made the call while delivering a keynote address at the International Women’s Day celebration organised by Zenith Bank at the Civic Centre, Lagos.
Speaking on the theme, “Take It, You Own It,” Dabiri-Erewa encouraged women to support one another and work collectively towards building a stronger and more inclusive nation.
According to her, “greater female participation in politics and governance would help ensure that women’s perspectives are better represented in national decision-making processes”.
Dabiri-Erewa also commended President Bola Tinubu for what she described as inclusive leadership through the appointment and election of women into key positions in government.
She further praised the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for her initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of women and children across the country.
In her remarks, the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Adaora Umeoji, called on women to remain courageous, dedicated, and visionary in their personal and professional pursuits.
Umeoji noted that the annual International Women’s Day seminar organised by the bank is “designed to inspire and empower women within and outside Nigeria”.
She explained that the event serves as a platform for leadership development, professional growth, and dialogue on issues affecting women.
According to her, the seminar also promotes women’s empowerment, social impact, and inclusive economic participation.
International Women’s Day is celebrated globally every March 8 to highlight the achievements of women and advocate for gender equality in different spheres of society.
