TODAY 27TH MARCH 2024 THEATER ARTISTS AND ENTHUSIASTS IN AKWA IBOM STATE JOINS GLOBAL ACTORS AND GOVERNMENTS IN THE COMMEMORATION OF WORLD THEATER DAY.
The 2023 Noble Prize Winner in Literature, Norwegian author Jon Fosse gave the theme for 2024 World Theater Day. The theme is “Theatre and Culture of Peace”.
This year theme is in sync with the objectives of the 2023 edition of the Christmas Unplugged festival hosted by the Akwa Ibom State Government.
This 32 days festival served as an occasion to recognize the diversity of theatrical traditions, promote peaceful dialogue and exchange between cultures across the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State. It was an opportunity by the Governor Umo Eno led administration to advocate for the importance of theatre in education and community engagement.
The festival also created opportunity for the Akwa Ibom State Government to investment in the construction of Nigeria’s largest dual stage amphitheatre with world class facilities.
This momemtal achievement has established the impact of the Akwa Ibom State Government among community of states with shared values of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) in the advocacy of the relevance of theatre and the cultural significance worldwide.
