UBTH, NMA, FG, Unveils NIDCOM Diaspora Medical Health Impact Initiative In Edo

The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), in collaboration with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), on Monday July 20th, 2026 officially launched the NIDCOM Diaspora Medical Health Impact Initiative in Edo State.
 
The initiative aims to leverage the expertise of Nigerian medical professionals in the diaspora to enhance healthcare delivery and address critical health challenges within the state and in the south south region.
 
By fostering partnerships and utilizing innovative medical practices, the program seeks to improve health outcomes for the local population, ensuring that quality healthcare services are accessible to all residents.
 
The program targeted gynecologists, radiologists, sonographers, and reproductive health practitioners.
 
The event took place at the Centre of Excellence in Reproductive Health Innovation (CERHI) at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), with notable personalities in attendance, including the NMA President, Prof. Afekhide Ernest Omoti.
 
Medical professionals engaged in discussions aimed at tackling healthcare challenges, particularly those affecting women’s health.
 
The NIDCOM Diaspora Medical Health Impact Initiative event, tagged “Endometriosis Ultrasound National Capacity Building Program,” focused on enhancing the capabilities of healthcare providers in addressing endometriosis and related reproductive health issues.
 
Notable medical professionals for the training include Dr. Uche Menakaya, Gynecologist and Endoscopic Surgeon from Australia, Prof. Francesco Cedne from the University of Milan, Italy, Prof. Ligita Jokubkiene from Lund University, Sweden, and Juliet Menakaya from Australia.
