Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has commended the 8th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for their collaboration and cooperation to deliver quality service to Akwa Ibom people.
Speaking at the special thanksgiving service to mark the end of the 1st Legislative Year of the 8th Assembly, held at Qua Iboe Church, Ewet Offot, Uyo, the Governor noted that since assumption of office, he has enjoyed a good working relationship with the legislature, which according to him has enhanced his performance thus far.
Describing the House as a partner in progress, he noted that it was more profitable to work together than to be at war with each other, adding, “A lot of people believe that to be in the House of Assembly is to go and fight the Governor and make sure that he doesn’t succeed. But we fail to understand that we are all in the same boat. If we fail, we fail together, God forbid, when we succeed, we succeed together because we are one body connected together.
“The eyes can not say I don’t want the nose and the nose can not say I don’t want the ears. So I want to thank you for the good working relationship between us which has moved Akwa Ibom forward and ensured that our people enjoy the dividends of Democracy”
He specifically appreciated the members representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency, Hon Moses Essien and that of Ikono, Rt Hon Nana Asuquo who recently returned to the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), stating ” I thank our two brothers who saw the need to return home so that we can have one whole house, and we can work together as a people.
” Yes, there will always be issues, but let’s look at it dispassionately, and ask, if it is in the interest of the State, we go ahead. You have done very well, even the Judiciary has been supportive ”
Emphasising the imperative of thanksgiving for Christians and especially amongst constituents, he urged individual lawmakers as well as the recently reappointed transition committee chairmen to return to their various constituencies and local government areas to thank God with their people and thereby connect with people at the grassroots.
Reacting to the clamour for legacy projects by his administration, Governor Eno said his government has made huge investments in securing brighter chances for Akwa Ibom children in various fields, especially the less privileged, with the recent ones being the approval of scholarships for three Akwa Ibomites to study at the College of Aviation, Zaria, Kaduna State in addition to thirty-one students whose visas are ready for onward movement to the United Kingdom for an education exchange programme.
The governor noted that helping the needy and less privileged to achieve their dreams and destinies will constitute his legacy projects since, according to him, every leader has his own style.
Earlier, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Elder Udeme Otong while leading members of the 8th Assembly in a session of thanksgiving, expressed gratitude to God for what he described as a successful one year of legislative activities and peace in the State.
The service which saw the Chairman of the Conference of Qua Iboe Church, the Reverend Ekpedeme Efanga deliver the sermon, featured prayers for members of the 8th Assembly and the presentation of an Excellence Award by the church leadership to Governor Umo Eno, in recognition of his selfless support to the church and humanity.
