AKHA RECEIVES GOVERNOR’S NOMINEE AS REPLACEMENT FOR AKISIEC COMMISSIONER

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) has granted the State Governor’s request to change the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) membership.

In a letter dated 6th June 2024 and addressed to the Speaker, the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, sought the approval of the House for the replacement of Mr Ekpuk Eshiet with Dr Joseph John Obobikpe as a full-time Commissioner, Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC).

The Governor’s message was delivered by the Clerk of the Assembly, Mrs. NsikakAbasi Orok during Thusday’s Plenary.

Dr Joseph John Obobikpe, who hails from Obong Ata Essien, Etim Ekpo Local Government area, Governor Eno, said holds a degree from Ashland University, Ohio, United States of America as well as a retired Principal General who has served the State in various capacities.

He was optimistic that with his wealth of experience and rich educational background, Dr Obobikpe was fit to replace Mr Eshiet in the Commission as a full-time member.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Udeme Otong, after due deliberation, referred the matter to the House Committee on Justice, Human Rights and Public Petition to get the nominee screened and report back to the House in two weeks time.

The House was adjourned to reconvene on Thursday, 20th of June 2024 by 10 a.m.
