UCCDA, Internal Security Ministry Join Forces to Demolish Criminal Hideout in Uyo

In a major crackdown on criminal activity, the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA) and the State Ministry of Internal Security and Water Ways yesterday collaborated on a joint operation to demolish and clear a notorious criminal hideout behind Ibom Plaza in Uyo.

Speaking to youths present at the scene, the Chairman of UCCDA, Hon. Anietie Eka, emphasized the importance of clearing the government-owned forest, citing the need to ensure the security of residents in the area.

He said the bush area had become a safe haven for criminals, perpetuating fear and insecurity in the plaza axis and commended the youths for their cooperation in addressing this menace, which he described as a significant threat to the community.

On his part, the Commissioner for Internal Security, General Koko Essien (Rtd), flanked by the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr Udemedimo Udo, said the move is aimed at tackling the root causes of crime and building a safer and more secure city for all citizens in the State as encapsulated in the security management aspiration of the ARISE Agenda.
