The leaders of the Nigerian Citizens Association in South Africa have advised members to always respect and obey the laws of their host country.

NICASA stated that Nigerians in South Africa should also ensure proper documentation and maintain valid immigration status.

The community made this known in its concluded crime awareness webinar tagged, ‘Living Lawfully in South Africa.’

In a statement made available to Diaspora Tales, the president of the association, Rev Frank Onyekwelu, NICASA urged Nigerians to avoid involvement in criminal activities like fraud, drugs, cybercrime, and violence.

“The webinar served as an important platform to educate, enlighten, and empower Nigerians residing in South Africa on the importance of lawful conduct, community responsibility, and protecting the integrity of the Nigerian identity abroad.”

“As Nigerians continue to contribute positively to the economic, academic, religious, and social development of South Africa, it remains critical that we uphold values that promote peace, dignity, and respect for the laws of our host country,” the statement read.

Onyekwelu disclosed that the keynote speakers at the event included the Consul General of Federal Republic of Nigeria in Johannesburg, Mrs Ninikanwa Okey-Uche, a retired South African police commissioner, Major-Gen Max Masha, and a Nigerian lawyer, Austin Okeke.

During the session, participants were encouraged to embrace the key principles for lawful living and protecting the Nigerian image.
