Corps members serving in Akwa Ibom state have, today, Tuesday, been assured of adequate security and standard welfare.

The Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Pastor Umo Eno, gave the assurance during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 batch-A stream-II corps members deployed to the state, at the state NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai LGA.

Represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Sir Monday Uko, the Governor said his administration will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the continued safety, security and well-being of corps members and other citizens in the state.

“In Akwa Ibom state, my government will continue to do its part to give you the needed support and enabling environment to contribute to the overall growth of our economy, as we are consciously taking necessary steps to ensure that your lives and properties including that of other citizens are protected against all forms of threat or abuse.” The Governor said.

He advised the new intake to endeavour to learn hands-on skills during the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAID) training series among other life enhancement programmes, noting that such skills would help them in life after national service.

Speaking earlier, the Director on cover duties for the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, the Reverend Emmanuel Akpabio, enjoined corps members to channel their knowledge and wealth of experience to assist the government in improving the state economy as they gear up to be deployed to the hinterlands and other parts of the state at the end of the orientation course.

In his remarks, the newly appointed 19th NYSC state coordinator of Akwa Ibom state, Mr Okun Christopher, thanked the Governor for the numerous interventionist projects the state government has already undertaken and delivered in camp, and solicited for more camp infrastructure and improved power supply.

A total of 2,164 corps members, comprising 1,065 males and 1,099 females, have been deployed to the state for the ongoing national orientation course.
