A Nigerian man has been hailed for risking his life to stop a knife fight involving three teenagers at Burgess Park, London.
The 45-year-old, Hammed Danmole, said he intervened because he could not live with the memory “if one of those boys died.”
Daily Mail UK reported that Danmole was playing in his weekly Sunday league football match when he saw the teenagers pull out knives and attack one another.
The incident occurred on Sunday, May 17.
The property investor, who lives in Beckenham, said, “After I did it, people said I shouldn’t have done that, and I should have left them.”
Recounting the incident to The Times, Danmole said he rushed towards the teenagers after noticing two hooded youths dressed in black enter the park while he was taking a break behind the goalposts.
He added that another boy arrived on a scooter about five minutes later, after which an argument broke out, and two of the boys allegedly pulled out machetes.
“I’ve got a 17-year-old boy, and when I looked at them, I saw him. I would do anything to stop these young boys from killing each other,” he said.
While others screamed in fear or recorded the fight on their phones, Danmole reportedly intervened and separated the teenagers.
The teenagers were later arrested at the scene and charged with offences including possession of a bladed article and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
