Woman faults UK prison authorities over release of Nigerian partner

A French woman, Claire N’Djosse, has faulted prison authorities in the United Kingdom for releasing a Nigerian man, Ifedayo Adeyeye, accused of abducting their five-year-old son.

N’Djosse said she felt “betrayed” by the release of the 58-year-old British-Nigerian from HMP Pentonville in London on April 21, 2026.

According to a Daily Mail report, the woman said she had not seen her son, Laurys N’Djosse Adeyeye, since he was allegedly abducted in France by his father in July 2024.

N’Djosse said she believed Laurys was taken to Nigeria through the UK.

She had approached the High Court in London seeking the return of her child, with Adeyeye later sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for contempt of court.

However, the court had earlier this month said that Adeyeye was mistakenly released from prison and might have travelled to Spain within the three days it took prison officials to notify the police.

Police have continued searching for Adeyeye, while the Ministry of Justice said it understood the distress caused by the mistaken release.

Speaking in French through a Press Association reporter, N’Djosse said she felt “lost” without her son, adding that her “life stopped” after Laurys was abducted.

The 46-year-old said Adeyeye’s imprisonment had given her “a glimmer of hope” that Laurys would be returned, but his release had shattered that hope.

She said, “It’s my child who’s my hope. My life has stopped; I can’t do anything if I don’t have my child. My child is my reason to live.

“Now that Adeyeye is gone again, I have lost all hope of seeing my child again. I am upset. I don’t know how I’m going to keep going.”
