Offot Ukwa Association USA Holds 2026 National Convention in New York, Honors Distinguished Community Leaders

NEW YORK CITY — The Offot Ukwa Association USA, Inc. successfully hosted its 2026 Annual National Convention in New York City from May 28–31, 2026, bringing together members from across the United States under the theme, “Securing Our Future Through Community Development.”
 
The three-day event focused on fostering unity, promoting cultural heritage, and exploring strategies for sustainable community development both at home and in the diaspora. Delegates participated in a variety of activities, including leadership discussions, networking sessions, cultural presentations, and community engagement programs.
 
A major highlight of the convention was the presentation of the Association’s prestigious Presidential Order of Merit Award to two outstanding members of the Akwa Ibom Diaspora, including the community in New York. The recipients, among others, were Dr. Samuel Ottong and Deaconess Imabong Ottong, who were jointly recognized for their exemplary leadership, dedicated community service, and longstanding commitment to the advancement of the Akwa Ibom diaspora community.
 
Also honored was Lady Nkoyo Ekpo, whose contributions to community development, cultural preservation, and humanitarian service have positively impacted many individuals and families within the diaspora.
 
Presenting the awards, the leadership of Offot Ukwa Association USA commended the honorees for their exceptional service and for serving as role models to future generations. The association noted that their achievements reflect the values of excellence, integrity, and commitment to community development embodied in the convention’s theme.
 
The convention concluded with a renewed commitment among members to strengthen community ties, support development initiatives, and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Offot Ukwa and Akwa Ibom people worldwide.
