… inspects hospital, school, road projects in Nsit Ubium, Eket

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to contractual obligations and ultimately deliver tangible benefits to the people.

He commended contractors who have taken advantage of the coming dry season to return to the site to accelerate the progress of work.

Speaking to Government House correspondents after a four-hour intense inspection of different projects located in Nsit Ubium and Eket Local Government Areas, the Governor also directed other contractors yet to return to the site to also take advantage of the dry season to deliver on their respective projects.

“We don’t have time. We have a short dry season because of climate change, and we have been waiting. So now is the time for all of us to get back and get the job done,” he stated.

On the driving force for the long hours of inspection, he said, “My driving force is time, and the love for the people. The homecoming ceremony finished yesterday. I could have gone back to Uyo, but my attitude is, wherever I am, there are projects around there; so I take the opportunity to see for myself how projects are going on around there.

“Thank God that the dry season is setting in, so we can also work with the contractors, know the challenges they have, and see how to bring solutions to them. We have done well over four hours of project inspection before we head back to Uyo. That is the driving force,” he added.

On the 2.4 kilometres Nsit Ubium – Eket road construction, the Governor commended the contractors for returning to project sites to catch up with the dry season.

Some of the projects inspected included the ongoing remodelling of the Cottage Hospital and Model Primary School at Nsit Ubium, and the Nsit Ubium – Eket Road through Ofriyo, which, when completed, will link Nsit Ubium to Eket local government area.

Giving an overview of the Nsit Ubium – Eket Road through Ofriyo, the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga said the 2.4 kilometre dual carriage way, handled by Amitec Construction Ltd, has two bridges, each spanning 120 meters.

He said the road is an alternative economic viable route, and on completion, will connect Nsit Ibom and Nsit Ubium with Eket Local government Area through Ofriyo community.

The Governor was accompanied by the Executive Assistant and Chief Delivery Advisor, Aniefiok Johnson, the Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, and the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Aniekan Umanah, among other aides.
