U.S. military expands training support for Nigerian forces

The United States Mission to Nigeria has expanded its military support for Nigeria, reinforcing a long-standing partnership aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s counterterrorism capabilities.

In a statement obtained from the U.S Mission’s X handle on Wednesday, the mission said in 2018, U.S. troops trained about 200 soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 26th Infantry Battalion in responding to improvised explosive devices (IEDs), ambushes, and operational planning.

“The exercise reflected decades of cooperation focused on training, capacity building, and operational readiness.

According to the mission, this week, approximately 100 U.S. military personnel arrived in Nigeria to provide further training and technical assistance, underscoring continued collaboration in the fight against terrorism.
