WASCE candidates
The foremost examination body in West Africa, the West African Examinations Council, has inaugurated the body’s Digital Certificate Services Systems.
The system is known as the WAEC DIGICERT, which combines the five member countries — Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone, reports Daily Independent.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued yesterday and signed by the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Headquarters, Accra, Ghana, Demianus Ojijeogu, on behalf of the Registrar.
WAEC said the Digital Certificate Services platform is “a mobile and Web-based application that provides enormous benefits to the various stakeholders,” explaining that it offers “simple features that enable users to access, request, confirm or share digital forms of the original certificates.”
According to the Council, candidates can also recover lost WAEC examination numbers through the system.
It assured stakeholders that “the system is reliable, the authenticity of the certificates is guaranteed, and the cost benefits to users cannot be overstated.”
The Council disclosed that following a successful pilot in Nigeria, WAEC DigiCert “received positive feedback from candidates and educational institutions worldwide.”
Advising the public to adopt the platform, WAEC urged stakeholders “to use WAEC DigiCert to avoid administrative challenges and bottlenecks associated with manual certificate issuance and collection.”
The Council, however, clarified that “the usual printing and issuance of certificates will not be affected by this innovation.”
It added that the mobile application is available for download on the App Store and Play Store for iOS and Android devices, respectively, while further information can be obtained via its official website and social media platforms.
Meanwhile, the Council also announced the release of the 2025 Second Series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination results for private candidates.
It stated that candidates may check their results by visiting www.waecdirect.org to confirm their status before proceeding to the Digital Certificate platform at www.waec.org to access released digital certificate copies.
