WOMEN’S INCLUSIVITY: A’IBOM FIRST LADY POURS ENCOMIUMS ON GOVERNOR UMO ENO

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has been lauded for his commitment to fostering female participation in governance by providing more opportunities for women to serve in public office.

The Governor’s wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, expressed her appreciation on Friday, August 16, 2024, during the August edition of the Akwa Ibom Women Monthly Prayer Service, with the theme ‘And God Answers,’ held at the Government House Banquet Hall, Uyo.

It is worth recalling that the Governor had previously pledged to enhance women’s participation in governance, mandating that women are allowed to be elected as Local Government Chairmen and women appointed as Vice Chairmen in the LG Councils where men are chosen as chairman.

In her remarks, the First Lady urged the newly appointed female officials to serve with excellence and fulfil their responsibilities.

“I thank my husband, Pastor Umo Eno, for giving the opportunity for the incoming female Chairpersons, Vice Chairpersons, and Councillors numbering over 200 of them. I am told that it has never been this way before . I congratulate them and I thank the Governor for including the women in the development of the state,” she said.

The service featured a sermon on the theme “And God Answers,” based on Psalms 34:15-17, delivered by Evangelist Mfon Isreal, who encouraged the congregation to trust in God, who is always ready to respond in times of need.

Evangelist Isreal explained that when God answers prayers, it signifies a response to a plea, burden, or deep concern. She urged the women of Akwa Ibom to return to their place of prayer, assuring that God is ready to answer them, just as He did for Asa in the Bible.

Thanksgiving and intercessory prayers were offered to God for His abundant love towards the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, his wife, Patience, the Deputy Governor, and the people of Akwa Ibom.

Prayers were also offered for the EXCO, asking for the spirit of wisdom to guide the state’s growth and for consistent victories throughout their tenure.

The service also included a celebration for those born in August, personal testimonies from the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi and others, recognition of female PDP candidates, special numbers, hymns, and a cross-section of women from the three Senatorial Districts of the State in attendance.
